New Leadership Will Make a Difference

Reflecting on 2018... Preparing for 2019

Happy New Year!!

Words can’t express the gratitude that I feel as I reflect on what we have accomplished together this past year.  We began our journey with one simple idea... that WE DESERVE BETTER in District 6! Our campaign was propelled by you and many others who gave generously of your time, your treasure, and your talents.

Your relentless commitment to improving the lives of those in District 6 led to our victory. And we won by a margin of nearly 30% with voter participation at a record high compared to past midterm elections!  Thank you for your commitment to our city.  Thank you for putting your trust in me to lead us forward.

Now it's time to get to work.  Looking forward to 2019, I can't wait to partner with you and others to build on the energy and momentum we created during our campaign. I hope that you are equally excited about what we will do together in 2019 and beyond.  Please find below information about three ways that you can help keep the momentum going in our journey to create a thriving District 6 and a stronger Oakland.

Three ways you can stay involved and keep the momentum going in 2019.  See below for details.

  1. Attend the Inauguration Ceremony and After-Party on January 7th
  2. Complete our "Maintaining the Momentum Survey" by January 15th
  3. Make an additional financial contribution to our shared vision for a thriving District 6 and a stronger Oakland

Let’s keep the momentum of civic engagement going — I'm excited to hear from you! If you have any questions or comments, just respond to this email or give me a call at (510) 394-2413.

With Oakland Love,

Loren Taylor, Councilmember-Elect

Oakland District 6

1. Inauguration Ceremony and After-Party

Swearing-In Ceremony -- Monday, January 7th at 11am
Oakland City Hall, City Council Chambers

Please join us for the traditional swearing-in ceremony for newly elected Oakland City Officials.  The ceremony is free and open to the public but space is limited and available only on a first-come basis.  I suggest arriving by 10:30a when doors open. Following the ceremony will be a reception outside of Council Chambers at City Hall.

Inauguration After-Party - Welcoming New Councilmembers -- Monday, January 7th from 5:30 - 8:30pm
Oakland Asian Cultural Center (388 9th Street)

Please join me and the other two newly-elected Oakland City Councilmembers - Nikki Fortunato Bas (D2), Sheng Thao (D4) - to celebrate our inauguration and toast to the future of Oakland.  We decided to host a joint party as a demonstration of the increased collaboration and effective we will bring to City Council.  I would love to see you and personally thank you for your contributions that evening.  There is no cost to attend, but please click here to RSVP as space is limited.

2. Maintaining the Momentum for District 6 - Survey

Throughout my campaign for City Council, I truly have been inspired by your commitment to our community and your dedication to improving the lives of our families and neighbors here in District 6. Many have reached out about how you can stay involved, so I’ve created a simple survey for those interested so my team and I can reach out to you in the future about opportunities that fit your interests and expertise. Please take a couple minutes to tell us a bit about yourself and how you’d like to help our community moving forward and we’ll contact you!  Click Here.

3. It’s not too late to invest in our vision for a stronger District 6

As you know, this was a very expensive race to unseat a 16-year incumbent, which is unprecedented in Oakland.  I welcome your support in helping replenish my candidate account. In addition, there are a lot of startup costs that aren't covered by the Council budget.  Having a separate officeholder account available will help me free up time and energy to truly be effective from day one. Please consider making an additional contribution that will help us realize our shared vision as quickly as possible for D6 and the city of Oakland as a whole. Click here to make your online contribution.  If you'd prefer, you can also mail a check to Loren Taylor for Oakland City Council (PO Box 4947, Oakland, CA 94605).  Thanks in advance for your contribution!
